Kalama School District
(4 Home of the Chinooks

Nutrition Services Dept.

Brandon Womacks, chartwells =
Director of Dining Services

Start of school went very well for food services. Both kitchens hit the ground running. Few
expected minor hiccups with our vendors and products but all in all it's been a great few
weeks so far.

Menus are posted online. Added a few new recipes this fall for example: Swedish
meatballs, meatball subs and Jerk Chicken w/ cilantro and lime rice. | did keep the classics
like homemade chili and Spaghetti w/meat sauce.

Update on staff: | Elementary staff is doing great. We have an open position we are
working on to get filled. Breakfast numbers are averaging 120 (double from last tyear) | lunch
participation is just under 300! Good Job Sarah, Liz, Amy! Ya

HSMS has been steady with their numbers. Breakfast has
increased a little from last year. We did open a build your own
sandwich bar and opened up pre-orders for all staff. Thank
you and good job Marsha, Shelly, Kerri and Ashlee!

| think by the mid October we will see true numbers for
breakfast and lunch participation in both schools.

One of the hiccups we had was a no delivery of Commodity this month. Communication problems
came up but have since been resolved and taken care of and we will be receiving it next month.
Majority of recipes utilize commodity products. So we will be steadily utilizing that once we start
receiving it. DOD produce has changed some. Not as much to select from like we had in the past. But |
am getting what we need for our school district and kids. Every day the kids get fed is a win! 9/24
