Regular Board of Education Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, August 24, 2021
    1. CALL TO ORDER
Members Present: Edie Reclusado, Frances Longshore, Annie Robbins, Candice Beathard, and Travis Harder.
  Staff Present: Nikki Grubbs, Superintendent; Jeanie Beebe, Director of Finance and Operations; Susan Vining, Recording Secretary.
  Call to Order: Ms. Reclusado, Board Chair, called the meeting to order at 5:15pm in the Hood Canal School Library.
  Reading of the District Mission: Read by Ms. Reclusado.
  Land Acknowledgement: Read by Ms. Longshore. 
  2. REVISION AND APPROVAL OF AGENDA
A correction was noted in the Land Acknowledgement and Ms. Robbins requested that minutes list the board members present.
  A motion was made to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried unanimously.
  3. CONSENT AGENDA
Vouchers audited and certified by the auditing officer as required by RCW 42.24.080, and those expense reimbursement claims certified as required by RCW 42.24.090, have been recorded on a listing, which has been made available to the Board.
  A motion was made to approve the agenda.  Motion carried unanimously.
  4. AUDIENCE COMMENTS
There were no audience comments.
  5. BOARD OF EDUCATION REPORT
Facilities Committee Update: Ms. Robbins provided a report from the Facilities Committee and updated the Board on possible capital projects. Ms. Robbins reminded those present of the upcoming Director Area 5 Regional Meeting on October 4th from 6:00pm to 8:30pm in Shelton.
  Proposed Board Goals: Ms. Reclusado discussed the proposed board goals. Ms. Beathard and Mr. Harder will meet with the Superintendent to draft more goals.
  Ms. Reclusado provided a Welcome Back letter from the Board to the Hood Canal School District staff.
  Strategic Planning Adhoc Committee: Ms. Reclusado discussed strategic planning. Ms. Longshore and Ms. Robbins will serve on the committee.
  Lunch for Staff: Ms. Beathard provided an update on the Hood Canal School staff lunch scheduled for Tuesday, September 7th.
  6. Superintendent Report
Students Transferring Out of District: Ms. Grubbs discussed the number of students transferring out of Hood Canal School District and the current student enrollment.
  State Vaccination Requirement: The deadline for staff vaccinations is October 18th.
  7. Finance
Ms. Beebe provided the Board with a detailed report of the district financials for all funds through the month of July 2021. The district continues to be in a financially stable condition.
  8. Action Item
Ms. Robbins made a motion to create on the Strategic Planning Adhoc Committee. Ms. Longshore seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
  9. Board Policies Review
The Board conducted a first reading of policies:
1822 - Training and Development for Board Members
2004 - Accountability Goals
2020 - Course Design, Selection and Adoption of Instructional Materials
3116 - Students in Foster Care
3122 - Excused and Unexcused Absences
  10. Future Board Meeting Dates
Future meeting dates were discussed as stated on the agenda.
  Ms. Grubbs confirmed which Board members will be attending the upcoming WSSDA Conference in Bellevue scheduled for Nov 18th - Nov. 20th
  The Board classroom walk-through schedule was reviewed.
  11. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 7:44pm.
