SUPPORT STATEMENTS FOR NAMING THE MERIDIAN HIGH SCHOOL NORTH GYM Statement for Diane Axelson Court Diane Axelson, a retired Meridian Volleyball coach and PE teacher, made an indelible mark on our school's athletic program during her tenure from 1989 to 2005. Under her leadership, the Meridian volleyball team secured seven conference championships, six district titles, and achieved state placement ten times, including clinching one state title. Her remarkable contributions and dedication to the sport were recognized with her induction into the WIAA Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame, cementing her legacy as a distinguished and influential figure in high school athletics. Given her extraordinary achievements and lasting impact on our community, it would be a fitting tribute to name the North Gym after Diane Axelson, honoring her legacy and inspiring future generations of athletes. Statement for Jenn Childress Jenn Childress, a retired Meridian High School Girls Basketball coach, PE teacher, and assistant athletic director, made significant contributions to our school's athletic program from 1995 to 2002. Her leadership led the basketball team to win a district title and secure two state place finishes, including an impressive second-place finish in 2000. Additionally, she was a vital part of the MHS Volleyball program, serving as an assistant coach during her tenure. Given her remarkable accomplishments and dedication to Meridian High School, it would be a fitting tribute to name the North Gym after Jenn Childress, honoring her legacy and inspiring future generations of athletes and students. Statement for Ron Vekved Ron Vekved, a dedicated Meridian community member and longtime fan, left an enduring legacy through his unwavering support and commitment to our school. Known as a Meridian Super fan, Ron consistently attended baseball, volleyball, and basketball games, showing his loyalty and enthusiasm for our teams until his passing in 2023. He was always willing to donate his time and resources to any Meridian cause, embodying the spirit of the Meridian Trojans. Naming the North Gym after Ron Vekved would be a heartfelt tribute to his contributions and a lasting reminder of his dedication to our community.
